Her husband cancels, and Nina comes home overdressed and underwhelmed. Evan stumbles into a stray compliment he never meant for her ears, and she calls his bluff with a smile.
Our take An overdressed stepmom and a stepson who cannot keep a thought to himself make a tidy pairing. The slip of the tongue is a good engine. Episode 2 clearly has more to say.

Nina confronts Evan about what he said. He tries to retreat behind the family tie, but she turns his excuses against him, and the worry about being caught soon becomes the only argument he has left.
Our take The confrontation scene has an enjoyable back-and-forth, with her turning every excuse back on him. The worry about being caught raises the stakes. A neat, confident step up from episode 1.

Synopsis

Nina had planned a night out with her husband: a table, a dress and a reason to get dressed up. A work call ends all that, and she comes home to find her stepson Evan standing in the hallway. The food is still warm, the mood is already set, and Nina is in no hurry to waste either. Evan thinks his private thoughts stayed private. They did not. Nina heard every word, and now she wants to hear them again, to his face. The question is no longer who is at the table. It is what Evan will say when she tells him to look.
