She climbs into his truck with a quick joke about serial killers and a long story about her boyfriend. Heat, sweat and a cold drink later, they find a motel with one room left, and she insists that it will do.
Our take A road-trip opener with easy chemistry: the serial-killer joke breaks the ice, the heat in the cab does the rest. Simple and effective, and the single-room motel is a classic payoff.

At the motel, he fumbles through small talk while she teases him about the room. A phone call from her ex ends fast and loud, and she decides that nice guys are underrated. Then she asks him to bring her a towel, and then asks again, closer.
Our take The ex's phone call is quick and funny, and the towel request is a well-judged tease. The motel setting is slightly worn, but the chemistry holds. A reliable pull to the paid episodes.

Synopsis

The road is empty, the sun is merciless, and the pickup has seen better decades. When its driver spots a gorgeous hitchhiker on the shoulder, he assumes she is out of his league and that she will find some other ride. She gets in anyway. Her ex was left at a gas station fifty miles back, she says, and she has no particular destination. The only town for a long way has one motel and one room left, which she thinks is perfectly fine. He is a decent man with a cooler of cold drinks and no skill at flirting, which seems to be exactly what she wants. The desert is waiting to see who is really picking up whom.

Watch it if...

Pick it for a road-movie mood: a hot day, an empty highway, and two people with nothing to do but talk. The leads are charming, the dialogue has a slow, sunlit rhythm, and the sweet, awkward driver is a refreshing change from the usual swaggering types. A neat small-scale story that knows when to hand the wheel to the passenger.
