Introductions at the beach house. Slade struggles to talk to his girlfriend's stepmother, then meets her best friend, who claims to know him. Holly says she can handle a bit of fun, and the first day ends with a bold invitation.

Our take A busy opener with many introductions, but Holly's entrance carries the whole thing. The beach-house setting is relaxed, and Slade's stammering is funny. Episode 2 promises a proper secret.

At the boardwalk, an old memory surfaces. Holly offers him a deal: keep her secret and earn a surprise. When Gretchen is afraid of the Ferris wheel, she sends Slade up with her stepmom, who has something to show him once the cabin rises.

Our take The boardwalk memory is a smart reveal, and the secret deal gives Holly something real to play with. The Ferris wheel fear is a fun detour. Better paced than the opener.

Synopsis

Slade is spending the summer at a shore house with his girlfriend Gretchen, her father and her glamorous stepmother, Holly. The plan is sun, boardwalk games and a clean impression. Then he meets Holly and the story begins to wobble. She is warm, confident and strangely familiar, and so is her friend Brittany. It takes one awkward moment to realize where he has seen them before. Holly has a secret, he has a promise to keep and the boardwalk is full of rides built for two. Every day gets a little warmer, and the girlfriend keeps nudging him to be nice to the stepmom.

Watch it if...

Choose this one for sunny, flirty summer-rental drama. Holly is the series' queen, sharp-tongued and entirely in control, and Slade is the lovable guy who keeps stumbling into her orbit. The shared secret gives everything a hum, the boardwalk gives it a postcard look and the pace is breezy. Great for readers who like a charming blackmail twist with a beach backdrop.
