Amanda pulls her stepson out of his game, dresses him in his dad's suit and walks him into the gala. Strangers congratulate the couple, and she keeps the act going with a smile. At the end of the night, she shows him the room his father booked.

Our take A neat fake-couple conceit with a gala as the stage. Amanda's commands are the fun, the gamer pulled off his console is a cute touch, and the hotel key makes episode 2 a given.

  2. 2

    2. Episode 2 about 1 minFree with an account

The act continues behind a closed door, and he tries to put an end to it. His stepmom reminds him that husbands do what they are told. He protests that she is his dad's wife, and she answers that his father is working all night.

Our take The act moves behind a closed door, and the writing leans on repetition of his protest. Still, her calm logic is amusing, and the line about his father working is a smart closer.

Synopsis

A black-tie evening is on the calendar, and Amanda refuses to walk in alone. Her husband is working late, so she turns to the nearest available man: her stepson, who has just finished a long gaming session and has nothing to wear. She puts him in his father's tuxedo and tells him to play the husband for one night. Guests gush about how adorable the couple is, and the act gets easier with each toast. By the time the party winds down, the pretending has stopped being a joke. Amanda has booked a room, and she has no intention of sleeping alone.

Watch it if...

Made for anyone who enjoys a slow reveal inside a social setting: tuxedos, champagne, a charming deception that everyone is in on except the one person who should be. The step-parent angle is front and center, played for charm rather than shock, with plenty of room for glances across a ballroom.
